PROLOTHERAPY

Prolotherapy

Our Prolotherapy Doctors Naturally Heal for Overused or Injured Joints

• •
What if we told you that there was a treatment option for your joint pain that works for 92% of our patients, has roots going back to 500 BC, and does not involve potentially dangerous painkillers or risky surgery? You’d probably want to know more about this treatment.

We have great news. This treatment exists, it’s called prolotherapy, and we’re proud to offer it here at National Stem Cell Clinic.
Prolotherapy uses a mild irritant solution (usually consisting of various sugars) that we inject directly into the damaged or painful joint, creating a small, controlled inflammation. This controlled inflammation is a reparative type or proliferative type. This causes your body to heal the original damage that started the pain. Your body regenerates new, whole tissue, and you experience less pain and better function.

Imagine: pain relief and true healing after a few simple injections. It’s possible, and we’re here to help you achieve it.

What Our Prolotherapy Doctors Can Treat

Prolotherapy is used to treat joint damage, specifically damage in the ligaments or tendons. When these tissues are fragmented, stretched, or torn, you’ll experience an extremely painful and possibly even hypermobile (unusually mobile) joint. Needless to say, this can make it harder for you to handle everyday activities and enjoy life.

We can use prolotherapy to treat damage in the following joints:
• Shoulder • Elbow • Wrist • Hip • Knee • Ankle • Spine (Cervical, Thoracic, Lumbar) • Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ)

Besides treating these joints, we can use prolotherapy to treat temporal mandibular joint dysfunction and carpal tunnel syndrome. The treatment is even used in the treatment of varicose and spider veins, though it’s often called sclerotherapy in that context.
How It Works
The process starts with a complete workup and diagnosis, often using laboratory tests, an MRI, a physical exam and your medical history. Once we know exactly what we’re dealing with, our doctors will prepare a special solution of dextrose and other sugars. They will then precisely and carefully inject that solution into the source of your pain. Their expertise is what leads to our high success rates.

Your body responds to the injection by inflaming the area. You might experience mild swelling or stiffness that can easily be treated with pain relievers like acetaminophen (Tylenol). Please don’t take anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen (Advil) and aspirin, because they can interfere with the inflammation that is part of the treatment.

Your treatment will be gradual; we will often have to perform multiple injections in order to achieve full healing. However, the good news is that the treatments themselves are simple and shouldn’t interfere with your day-to-day life.

Here’s another thing to consider: this treatment has been around a long time. As far back as 500 BC, ancient Roman doctors used hot branding irons to treat soldiers healing from shoulder dislocations. Thankfully, we’ve come a long way from those days. The modern treatment began to be developed in the 1920s and continued through the 1950s to today.

But what’s most important is that the treatment is astoundingly successful. As many as 85%-95% of patients are soon pain-free! Our patients enjoy success rates of 92%, which is on the high end of that range. Compare that to disc surgery, which only works about half the time.
